Important Information Inside!

Today I went on a hike with a VERY interesting person, James Adams. The hike was to teach folks about the medicinal plants used by the Chumash Native Americans in Southern California. James is a Chumash healer as well as being a botanist that teaches at USC. Oh BOY, was it exciting. I love to hike around my city, and now I will be looking at some of the native plants on the trails in a very different way! Learning a touch about what the folks that were here way before us use to keep themselves healthy was so interesting and helpful.

Do you know who David Attenborough is? Oh, I do love him so. He is an amazing naturalist and journalist from the UK. He has made me gasp at the magic of the flora in The Private Life of Plants. He told me that there is a bird that is an amazing interior decorator called a Bower Bird. He has made me cry, explaining the similarities in behavior that apes and humans share. He has enthusiastically showed the people world that the animal and plant world are beautiful, exciting, fantastical places where magic happens every moment if you will just stop looking at facebook for a moment and go outside. I would like to give him a very special trophy made of sticks and special feathers. Maybe I will do that this fall! To be continued...

Big Lucky Bear

The Story of The Bear House

The Story of The Bear House

I have been lucky enough to live in New Orleans for a while. This city is filled with more magic than most. One day, while walkin my dog, I came upon this BIGGGG cement BEAR outside of someone's house. I stopped and read the sign which I have pictured above. Every day after that, I would walk by this house and rub that big bear's nose and wonder who was cool enough to live there. Another day, while exiting our neighborhood movie theater, a friendly man approached me and my daughter. He had a teddy bear shirt on and a GIANT gold bear ring and a bear bracelet. He introduced himself as Ricky Lenart, the man who lives in The Teddy Bear House!! I almost fell down. It was like meeting Santa Claus! He gave us his card and let us inspect his golden bear ring which is spectacular! Once home, we checked out his website. So, the little window diorama above the BIGGG BEAR is seasonal and get's changed (HURRAY DAY!!!!) and you can tour his teddy bear collection , which looks AMAZING, during the winter holidays!!! Oh, Mr. Ricky Lenart, I am so glad that you do what you do! The world needs MAGIC and you are delivering it in a furry lucky wonderful way!
